The purpose of Mammotives was to help understand why women decide to get - or not get - screened for breast cancer.

From October to December 2011, Iowa women, age 40+, were encouraged to visit  www.Mammotives.org and join in a discussion about breast cancer and mammography. Comments and discussion also took place on the Mammotives Facebook and Twitter pages.

The American Cancer Society, Iowa Cancer Consortium, and Iowa Department of Public Health launched Mammotives. Eleven Iowa-based health-care institutions and health-interest groups became project partners, sharing information about Mammotives with their networks of patients, employees, volunteers, and members. By involving multiple stakeholders and using a variety of social media platforms, the Mammotives campaign reached thousands of women from across the state.
